Bigdata resolves the canonical host name in the AbstractStatisticsCollector. This information is used in the banner class (com.bigdata.Banner) and when reporting performance counters for the OS, e.g., through ganglia or through the scale-out performance counter reporting mechanisms to the scale-out LBS. The correct reporting of the host name is necessary for applications such as the HA load balancer or the scale-out startup scripts.
This can take up to 30 seconds if reverse DNS is not correctly configured on a network. Since correct reverse DNS setups can be tricky (or impossible without the appropriate admin privileges), a workaround is necessary to avoid this latency.
This ticket documents a workaround in the AbstractStatisticsCollector.
